2020.08.04 21:41 PropertyForward The Best of Rubinville - 2005 Edition

2005 saw Dave Rubin's blog, "Rubinville", really take off. Dave continues fat shaming people; both famous (Kirstie Alley, Star Jones, Andy Milonakis, Anna Nichole Smith) and non-famous. (It's funny because Dave recently tweeted out to Kirstie Alley for her to do his show.) Dave voted for Republican Michael Bloomberg in the 2005 NYC Mayoral race. Some of Dave's favorite shows include The View, Tony Danza, and any program on CNN or Fox News. Dave wishes death to Jeff Zucker for not picking up a failed sketch show of his and continues to believe that Tom Hanks stole his material and used it on The Tonight Show. (Dave previously mentioned this in his blog; 2003/4.) Dave mocks Adam Carolla and Mike Rowe; he is now friendly with both. In the beginning of 2005, Dave promises to no longer stalk Ellen but he goes back on that promise. Except this time, Dave shares his daily e-mails to Ellen. Lastly, Dave continues to use slurs against Asian people, Arabic people, little people, and well, anyone he doesn't like.
2005 Rubinville
01/09/2005 Palestian elections are today and most people are expecting Abu Mazen to win by a solid margin. If any Palestians are reading this and haven't voted yet, please use your vote to write-in Arab-American actor Tony Shaloub. People think to think his show 'Monk' is funny, but it actually sucks and I think he'll be out of work soon enough. I still can't get over that dump I took. I think I lost a vital organ.
01/18/2005 It's absolutely freezing outside. I recommend boxers briefs with a pair of regualr boxers above them to keep your balls nice and toasty. Everyone loves toasty balls. Watched the Golden Globes...I'd just like to say that Star Jones had a lump of fat coming out of her dress in the armpit area. So very disturbing…I've officially stopped writing Ellen Degeneres e-mails because she refuses to respond. That's it Ellen, no more compliments about your dancing either.
01/20/2005 I wonder wish of the Bush twins gives better head.
01/23/2005 Leno has just totally wrecked that show and no self-respecting comic can stand the guy. Though, as I have joked before, I probably shouldn't write that. The stuff that we have been doing at the Comedy Company lately is the type of stand up that Johnny would've loved, I'm sure. So Dave Letterman, if you find yourself a lil nostalgic, and looking for new comics like how Johnny once found you, I'm only about 3 blocks away.
02/10/2005 In other news, turns out that Hakeem Olajuwon gave money to a Islamic charity than ended up funding Hamas and other terrorist organizations. Hewlett Packard fired their CEO yesterday, further shrinkening the amount of female CEO's at major companies. Does this have anything to do with why my HP printer acts like a bitch whenever I try to print a color document? That was so weak, I apologize to you and your family.
02/14/2005 I then took the money I made and donated it to a Muslim charity which I later found out was just a front for Hamas. Oh wait, that was Hakeeem Olajuwon.
02/16/2005 Ashley Olsen is suing the National Enquirer for 40 million dollars for spreaidn what she calls false lies about her being involved in a drug scandal. I don't know if that's true or not but I banged her last night while she did cocaine off her sister's asscrack...Can someone please explain to me the logic behind Kirstie Alley being the spokeswoman for the new Jenny Craig ads? She's fat. Am I missing something here? Have they just given up altogether?
02/23/2005 Now, I wasn't there so I don't know what was said before the melee, but lemme say that fat people are usually hungry, and contrary to popular belief, not as jolly as they would have you believe. So, if one cuts you in line at a pizza place, just let them do it. Most likely they will die of a heart condition relatively soon, and they need to max out their eating time here on Earth.
03/06/2005 Dan Rather is about to officially sign off from the CBS news desk. In an interview Donald Trump says he would have told Rather "You're fired" a long time ago. Fortunately, for Rather he isn't a contestant on a tired reality show, he's just the host of a made-up news show.
Syrian President Bashar Assad says his country will move it's troops mostly out of Lebannon. Assad who, after the announcement, went to one of his many palaces and made his many female servents fondle him. Sammy Sosa got ejected in his second pre-season game….and watched the game from the clubhouse where some of his many female servants fondled him.
03/23/2005. Richard Simmons was on the Tony Danza Show this morning. I've never seen one man (Danza) so afraid of a woman (Simmons) before. The feeding tube is still out of Terry Shiavo. Call me crazy but I think that if a person is in a constant vegetative state and is being kept alive artificially by machines and her husband has nothign to gain by her death, except peace of mind, then, well, we should let her die.
04/11/2005 A special shout out to the asian girl up front who wouldn't even let me get a joke out before she told me that she loves oragami and calculus. Maury Povich is on ESPN's Cold Pizza right now. He's wearing so much makeup that he is starting to look like Connie Chung. Doesn't Connie Chung sounds like a type of infectious disease? "Dude, that's a pretty bad cough you got there" "Yea, I've got a bad case of Connie Chung."
04/15/2005 Just saw a commercial for "8 Simple Rules" on ABC. It said there is a secret so shocking that "it will upset even special guest Nicole Ritchie!" (Insert coked-up whore joke here)
04/27/2005 As some of you may know every other day or so I send Ellen Degeneres an e-mail with no specific point. Sometimes I just update her on things I'm doing, sometimes I ask a random question, sometimes I rant about politics. I've been doing this for about a year and have yet to get even one response back. So today it hit me, maybe Ellen isn't even getting my e-mails and they are being filtered out by some assistant or intern. So starting today, whenever I send Ellen an e-mail I'm also going to post a copy of it here in the Daily Dave. Here's what I sent today...
Ellen, I'm starting to think by your lack of responses to my emails that someone else is reading your emails. Who is this person? What qualifies them to read things in your name? How do they decide what gets passed onto you?
I realize that this person is reading this right now and thus probably won't pass it along, but I just want to say to that person that Ellen would really like to read this email and if you stop her from doing so, you are really stopping freedom of speech, which is the most American thing out there, and Ellen is pro-America, is she not??
Now I suppose we wait and see. The ball is in your court Ellen..
04/29/2005 Anyways, the point of this continues the string of good interactions I've had with some of the big names of comedy, like Seinfeld, Cosby and now Crystal. I've also had a couple good talks with Gilbert Gottfried, just not sure if he falls into the "big names" category.
Here's my e-mail to Ellen for today...
Hey Ellen, Something came up and I was wondering if I could borrow 2000 dollars. Thanks.
05/02/2005 Here's today's email that just sent Ellen Degeneres...
Ellen, Do you think that drinking Orange Juice with extra vitamins in it, like Tropicana's Immunity Defense Orange Juice is really worth it? Thanks.
05/04/2005 NBC announced 6 reality shows for this coming summer. They are, in no particular order...
The Biggest Loser - See a fat loser become a slightly less fat loser.
I Want to Be a Hilton - Paris' mother is the host, and I assume she sucks off the contestants.
Here's my e-mail of the day to Ellen...Ellen, I see you had Betty White on the show today. I didn't see it but I was wondering if you asked her if she moved back to St. Olaf or stayed in Miami after the Golden Girls ended.
05/06/2005 Here's my letter to Ellen for today...Ellen, I scored 22 points last night and my team is now 4-0 in our basketball league. That's not a question, just thought you'd like to know.
New York City is expected to have a 3.2 billion dollar surplus this year. Clearly, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg shouldn't be a politician. He's fixed the budget, crime is down, the city is cleaner, and quality of life is rising. As a comic this really pisses me off. There's nothing funny when things are going well. Damn you Bloomberg!
05/10/2005 We'll start with the Ellen letter of the day... Ellen,
I've noticed you're big on making people's dreams come true. Well, last night I had a dream that I was swimming in chocolate and started drowning until Batman arrived and saved me. Can you make that happen for me in real life?
05/13/2005 Ellen letter of the day… Ellen,
You showing your prom picture just reminded me of my prom. At mine, I was about to have sex for the first time but then the OJ Simpson car chase happened and it blew the whole thing. Sucks, right?
Macaulay Culkin has testified that Michael Jackson didn't molest him. You know you're a child molester when they have to bring in one kid just to say he DIDN'T get molested. Actually, rumor has it that Michael tried to molest Macaulay on many occasions but Macaulay always had an elaborate series of traps set-up and Michael would get a bowling ball dropped on his head or slip on a bunch of marbles.
05/16/2005 I accidently just flushed a copy of the Koran down the toilet this morning. Keep that quiet or there might be riots in Patterson, New Jersey.
05/19/2005 However, I will do an impression of Yoday having sex..."Going to come, I am!"
06/14/2005 Kirstie Alley claims to have lost 35 pounds on Jenny Craig according to the commercial I just saw. In my opinion she looks fatter than ever, which makes me think they fattened her up about 70 pounds, then had her drop 35 pounds. Michael Jackson is not guilty on all charges. He celebrated the verdict by getting drunk at the Santa Monica pre-school. That's really all I can offer up on MJ at the moment. It's sad that money buys justice in this country, but it is what it is.
07/06/2005 I'm currently pitching a show to NBC where regular people get to hunt down NBC executives and murder them in cold blood. The first person to get Jeff Zucker gets a million bucks. Time Warner cable here in NYC is now Carrying AZN Television, "The Network for Asian Americans". This is a real problem going on in America right now, that everyone thinks they need their own channel. The asain channel, the woman channel, the gay channel, the black channel. What's next, a comedy channel?
07/07/2005 Terror is really an amazing tool. It makes nations choose their destiny instead of avoiding it. When America was attacked, we chose to go on the offensive. When Spain was attacked, they chose to retreat. Now England will have their choice, and we'll see what they do. I have a feeling they'll go on the offensive, but Europe is a strange place, and there are many people who think that if you appease the bad guys that they will stop hating you as much.
A month from now Israel is going to pull out of the Gaza Strip. I can't help but think that the same guys who attacked us on 9/11, and the same guys who hit London today, are the same guys who will be thrilled that Israel is leaving because of an unrelenting campaign of terror. I'm not saying that staying just because they will feel rewarded if you leave is enough to stay, but I am wondering if leaving emboldens them to fight even more.
07/15/2005 Hillary thinks that the simulated sex in Grand Theft Auto is pretty much the beginning of the end of human civilization. Of course, co-moralist Joe Lieberman is joining Hillary on this crusade to save humanity as we know it. Somehow I doubt the two of them have ever played the game, or any other game for that matter, but as politicians they obviously feel qualified to tell us why they think we're all messed up.
07/17/2005 If any of that made sense to you then I highly recommend The Andy Milonakis Show on MTV. I have literally no idea what the show is about, but it is based around an overgrown, mildly-obese, childlike moron who does various nonsensical stunts. As I watched in utter horror my roomate turned to me and said...
07/18/2005 Joy Behar - Doesn't take shit from Star Jones. Robot Chicken - I had this idea about 10 years ago, but Seth Green did it first. Good job. Kira Phillips - That smile makes suicide bombings look sorta cute.
07/21/2005 Caught a few minutes of Tucker Carlson's new MSNBC show last night. I've discussed what a bow-tie wearing dork he is before, but now let me also throw in that even without the bow-tie he is still a big dork.
07/27/2005 I watched a new show on the Discovery Channel last night called, "Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe". The show follows Mike as he goes from various jobs that nobody would want to other jobs that nobody would want. In just this one episode, he plucked golf balls from alligator infested waters, he was a garbage man and he jacked off a horse. Yes, that's right. People are doing this. For a living.
08/01/2005 The ladies of The View are talking about poor Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie, who claim not to like each other, yet will do another season of "Simple Life". Hmm, call me a cynic but maybe they are just making up the whole fued just for the free publicity? C'mon Starr Jones, call it like it is! Say allegedly if you have to! File a leagal brief! Eat a piece of cake! Just do something!
08/06/2005 And back to the funny...This week marks the 60th anniversary of the USA dropping the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima. To commemorate the occasion, Iran announced it will continue it's nuclear program and bomb someone "as soon as humanely possible."
08/10/2005 Terrell Owens left Eagles training camp today. WAAAAA! I only make 12 million dollars a year to play football! WAAAAA! I want more money! WAAAAAA! I want more respect! WAAAAA!
08/12/2005 Speaking of Sportscenter, Mario Lopez, better known as AC Slater, is new doing a new segment on Sportscenter called ESPN Hollywood. He is so smiley its ridiculous. Mario, we all know you want to kill people, from Zach Morris to Stuart Scott. Let it go bud, you don't have to smile the whole time. It's offensive.
08/15/2005 Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the show, is amazingly unfunnny, and will be cancelled any day now. Sara Silverman has no real talent and will continue to suck Jimmy Kimmel's cock for as long as he has a TV show. Adam Corrola also sucked Jimmy Kimmel's dick to further his career. And it was no easy feat because if his giant teeth. Israel is pulling out of Gaza today. Why is it that Jews can't live in a place that is run by Arabs, but Arabs can live in Israel, France, Britian, America and every other country on the planet? Oh yea, the Arabs are backwards, fundamentalist wacko's. I keep forgetting that.
08/26/2005 My first hour on Craigslist yesterday was accidentely searching for jobs in San Franscisco. Considering I hate commuting to the East Side, San Fran would really be pushing it. Kathy Griffin has a new show on Bravo called, "My Life on the D-List". I'm pretty sure once you have a show you are off the D-List. She's probably C-List now. I'm D-List. Oh, who am I kidding, I'm G-List, but I aspire to be D-List. Man, D-List, that'd be so sweet. Okay, gotta go, I've got a lot of work to do. D-List here we come.
09/06/2005 Anyone else think that Bush had Rehnquist killed to get some of the the heat off him for the slow support time in the Gulf Coast? Timing is everything.
09/17/2005 It was with great joy and happiness that when i woke up this morning that I came across "GI Joe: Sigma 6" on Fox 5. I saw the title of the show as it was on a commercial and I anxiously awaited what I would see. Then it happened once again. Japanimation.
09/26/2005 Shouldn't Intelligence Design really be called Unintelligent Design?
09/30/2005 That whole Elian Gonzalez fiasco is back in the news because it all went down five years ago. I said it then and I'll say it now, if a little Mexican boy wants to go to Puerto Rico, I say let him go.
10/06/2005 Fortunately, the guy at the bodega downstairs lent my his metro card and I picked up my roomate's keys. In the past I've had my suspicions that the bodega guy works for al-Queda, but on this day he was a good man.
10/08/2005 Iran's stock market dropped 30% yesterday. Can you imagine what it smells like on the trading floor of the Iran Stock Exchange? Nobody there wears deoderant for God's sake. If you want help to turn it around I'd recommend putting all your money in Allah Body Spray. Women will pull down there burka's as low as their nose if they smell it.
10/11/2005 One night a couple years ago Tom was on the Tonight Show to promote "Castaway." It was right before Chistmas and he was talking about all these toys, such as the Carebears and Power Rangers. I was noticing that some of the stuff he was saying was amazingly close to my material at the time, and he was even saying it pretty much how I was saying it. Then he went into this whole thing about the Tranformers, about how they transform from robots into cars. He ended by singing a version of the Transformers theme song in the voice of Frank Sinatra. Dave, why would Tom Hanks steal your material, and how would he even get it in the first place? Good questions. As you probably know, when any actor goes on one of these shows all the questions/answers and jokes are pre-written. It was very clear to me that Tom was just doing material he had been given. So no, I don't think Tom had any idea what was going on. I think he paid some writer for some material and some writer gave him stolen stuff. It's not the first time it has happened, nor the last time it will happen, it just sucks when it happens to you. I'm pretty sure I know who gave him the material, but that I won't say until there is more worth in telling this story.
10/12/2005 Zucker, who has helped wreck TV by rolling out so many reality shows at the expense of real programming deserves that silver bullet. Yea, maybe it isn't wise for me to say that on here, but it isn't the first time and won't be the last time.
Years ago we sent Zucker "The Anti Show", which we filmed in NBC studios (unknown to him), and he never even bothered to respond to us. That was just one opportunity he had to take a chance on something completely oringinal, edgy and ahead of the curve. Instead he green-lit dozens of awful reality shows and a couple stale sitcoms. Karma is a bitch Jeff, but don't worry, it sounds like you'll be put out of your misery soon.
11/04/2005 I'm sure Apple will find a way to capitalize on this whole porn thing, perhaps by coming out with a new iPod designed specifically for the midget porn afficionado. Speaking of midget porn, I have to be somewhere in 15 minutes. Take care.
11/07/2005 Mike Bloomberg for Mayor of NYC. Yea, he's nerdy. Yea, he's rich. But the city is safe, clean and he even rides the subway sometimes. Anyone who can deal with the smell of the 59th and Lexington stop smell is worth voting for.
11/12/2005 Saw Derailed with Jennifer Anniston last night. Pretty good flick. The moron couple behind me brought their four year old son who kicked my seat constantly and didn't shut up the entire time. I got this close to derailing his graduation to kindergarten, but calmer heads prevailed.
11/16/2005 Michael Jackson got caught walking into a woman's restroom in Bahrain earlier this week. He claimed that it was a simple mistake because he doesn't speak Arabic. It turns out that he thought the sign said, "Horrifically Misfigured Former Pop Stars Who Like to Lick Children's Heads."
12/20/2005 The transit strike is on, and while I don't want to take sides, let me say that the transit workers and their union representatives can go fuck themselves….. I haven't seen so many angry people stuck in traffic since the day before we bombed Baghdad.

2020.03.16 15:14 SocialistHiker Joshua Collins here. I'm demanding the suspend the collection of all rent residential mortgage payments for at least 2 full months while the COVID-19 crisis is going on. & I need your help!

So, as many of you probably know, I'm a 26 y/o Socialist truck driver running for Congress in Washington State. I'm also autistic, & really good with understanding patterns & strategizing around them. I've used that to build a massive social media reach to raise $200k in small donations & recruit thousands of volunteers. Being in Washington State, our campaign is basically having to move completely online. Which is amazing because we're a thousand times better than all our opponents are at online campaigning.
So let's get to the reason I'm here. The petitions.
Our primary demand is simple: for Governors to lead the effort to suspend the collection of rent & residential mortgage payments for at least 2 months. Utilities too. I believe that if we are not working & being paid, our landlords & mortgage companies should sure as shit not be still getting paid. (They shouldn't exist, but I digress)
We first made a petition for Washington State, & it got 25k signatures from WA residents in the first day. If it hits 200k, it will actually warrant action from the governor, because if there is none, our actions & demands become significantly more radical. And we now have a ton of people's contact info to actually organize those efforts. We'll let our Governor & other relevant Gov figures know that & they will act accordingly. We will likely be using all this contact info for further organizing even if our demands are met. It's fucking hard to get anyone to fill out any sort of form, but we have succeeded at doing so by having the right demands & a big enough online reach to get the petition in enough hands that it spread organically. (Without spending any money on ads for the record)
So because it was so successful with our state, we created petitions for every US state & territory. And we just need help sharing them to people in the states we created them for. Post them on Facebook & Twitter, as well as any local/state subreddits, forums, Facebook groups, Craigslist, & literally anywhere else you can think of. Text them & dm them to all your friends & family in your state. And just know that we will be using the data responsibly, primarily to support tenants organizing efforts & maybe mutual aid if we can help coordinate that. I will lose my campaign if I go & hand people's contact info off to some shitlib or some shitlib organization, so I have an interest in not doing so. To whatever degree you can trust anyone with your info, I won't be violating that trust.

Thank you for everyone who helps with this. This might be incredibly useful in organizing a mass rent strike. Hopefully they will just suspend collection of rent so it doesn't come to that. But if it doesn't, we will do what we must. Stay safe out there y'all. Solidarity. ✊

2019.06.20 03:56 SoManySwags Moving to Puerto Rico in August and would love to have some questions answered.

Hello Puerto Rico! As the title says, I'm just waiting for my lease to end and I'll be on my way to PR some time in August. I have a few questions that I would love answered. Going without a job or place to live and taking my savings with me. Any other additional tips and resources would be greatly appreciated.
Quick about me: I'm 29 (Soon to be 30). I'm Hispanic and do speak Spanish. My English is far superior but I can hold up a conversation in Spanish. My work history predominantly includes administrative and tech support type roles in legal and medical offices. Huge baseball fan and I'd like to join or start a band when I get there.
  1. I've read that Clasificados Online is the Craigslist of Puerto Rico. Is this true? Should I be searching for work and an apartment on CO instead of CL?
  2. Is finding employment as difficult as a lot of the information I've read online says? Do you think my experience would translate well? I've already been sending out resumes on CL and Indeed.
  3. I've read that living in San Juan is expensive. My question here is would SJ be the most likely place to find employment and housing fast? Ideally I'd like to find employment first of course but I'll have enough to hold me over for several months while I search.
  4. Price range for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment in San Juan and just outside of San Juan? Some of the stuff I've seen on CL is easily inside my price range but I could be completely wrong and those posts could be fake.
  5. I understand that crime is a thing everywhere you go, but what areas would you most recommend I stay away from?
  6. I would like to buy a moped or something similar instead of a car. Would this be recommended?
Thanks in advance!

2019.05.12 17:51 plazman30 Lessons learned in buying used filters

I recently bought a lot of 5 filters and some air pumps for $10. The "crown jewel" of the bunch was a Fluval 306. All the filters were missing something from them.
The Fluval 306 was missing a media basket and the basket lid. I found those on eBay for $13.99 and $10.00 each shipped. I then found out the impeller was rusty. That was another $20 from my LFS. And the filter came with no media. Luckily I had 2 sets of the vertical pads. I bought 2 of the basket sponges for $7.00 at the LFS, and I have TONS of pumice stone, so I am good there. So, on top of the $10, I had to spend another $50.00. If I didn't have the extra media, it probably would have cost closers to $80.00 to get all the media I needed. The challenge I face now is the hoses are way too short. The previous owner cut them to length. Fluval ribbed hosing will cost me around $15-$20 EACH. I can go with standard tubing from Home Depot, but the intake and outlets provided by Fluval will not fit on those, so I would need to rig something up out of PVC or buy something, adding to the price.
So, a Fluval 306 NEW on Amazon costs $170 right now. Getting everything I need to get this one working, may end up costing you as much as $120 plus the $10 you paid for it. Your $10 deal now only saved you $40.00. And now you worry about whether it will leak. If it leaks, you will need gaskets, which will cost you another $10-$20, depending on where the leak is. And, you have no warranty.
So, my tips for buying any kind of used canister filter:
The pile of stuff also came with a Penguin 350, which I wanted to get up and working. It was missing a lid and a bio wheel. I found a seller in Puerto Rico, that send me a lid for $9.00 shipped. So. I ordered it. I decided I would skip the bio wheel. I scrubbed the filter and set it up, and the impeller rattled like you would not believe. I pulled it out and lubed it, but one of the rubber bushings was just worn out. It needed a new impeller. And, I can't get a new impeller shipped for less than $20.00. So, I need to spend $29.00 in parts to get a filter that costs $30.00 new on Amazon in working condition. And if I want the Bio Wheels working, I need to buy a second one for $15.00. This one is going on Craigslist for parts as a "come get it for free."
Same goes for air pumps. My last two hauls included air pumps. I now own 4 Second Nature air pumps that came along for the ride. Great air pumps. But if diaphragm rips on one, then I have to hunt down a NOS part. If you're buying an air pump, add the price of a diaphragm kit to your purchase price to see if it's worth it.

Cell providers are Claro, AT&T, H2O and Truphone.
I asked landlords of B&Bs in Arecibo advertising on airbnb.com whether Arecibo has cell service.
yes Arecibo has cellphone service, the thing is that the house is a bit far away from the city and some cellphone companies don't have good reception in the house, but overall in the area you should be able to have signal. We do not have a landline phone.
Greetings and God bless you !! there is a very good cell signal!
There is cell phone reception in Arecibo and in the house. However, there is not a landline.

2018.11.06 18:10 PRgunowner Who has the best deals for home gym equipment that ships to Puerto Rico?

Hey Guys,

Had a few glorious home gyms when I lived in the states. Rogue Fitness outfitted, craigslist plundered, ah the good ole days.

Now, I live in Puerto Rico and pieced the home gym together bit by bit... I already paid some heft shipping charges to get some Rogue Equipment... now the market has really caught up with these "other" guys (like Titan Fitness, etc) who seem to be making very good quality home gym equipment at low, low prices...

(My guess is if we have any international members here they could tell me any tips/tricks for international shipping home gym makers even if they don't live in PR?)

And now I'm looking to add some more equipment, more plates, etc and looking to figure out who does the best on international shipping - if at all - deals, etc now that we got BLACK FRIDAY coming up?!?!

Anyone? Anyone?

IF there's nobody else I'll probably try to catch some Rogue Fitness deals on Black Friday, maybe with their discounts + the crazy shipping to Puerto Rico - I'll come out about "even" like if I had bought them any other normal day living in the states.

2018.10.12 03:17 TatsumakiSTORM Should I bother with Craigslist posts like this?

During the last month or so, I've decided to take a look at Craigslist posts in the DMV area, since I just got a job offer. Being from Puerto Rico, I used local options instead of CL. So when I started seeing listings like this... Needless to say, I was stunned. No license plate? Really? I've seen people block their license plates with emoji stickers and fingers, but no license plate? That sounds suspect.
From the CL posts I've seen, I can easily tell you that nearly 80% of them have cars with the license plate removed entirely. I've been checking out new listings 3+ times every day, and this is all I see.
Naturally, I started looking up some more info as to why this is happening and ran into a Jalopnik article on curbstoners. Which leads me to think that these people might as well be dealers posing as private owners, especially since the cost to list cars for dealers is now $5 per post.
Do you think I should ignore listings like these, or should I bother giving them a call? Searching for local classifieds in PR was painful, but this is a whole other level in my eyes.

2018.06.25 18:24 Killingtime82 I see right through you, K

I know you pretend to hate me now. I can tell you are still in love with me and you can't have me back. You decided to cheat and lie kid. You hooked up with random guys on craigslist and got addicted to painkillers. You said nasty things about me to our friends and family in order to feel justified in your actions. I hated you for awhile, but I decided to forgive you. You did just about everything possible to destroy my life. You attempted to cut off every bit of support I had. What you didn't realize is that you did me a huge favor. We came from broken homes. We made friends with broken people. The people around us were no good. Your friends and family were jealous of us. We had good jobs, 2 healthy beautiful children, our own home in a good neighborhood and we were happy. They don't have those things. They stopped talking to you as you got further in your life. They became jealous and critical of us. I fought like hell to get you to let go. You spent a lot of time being depressed while they ignored you and treated you poorly. I was happy when you started getting along with them again. I didn't realize it was because you started turning against me and they fed into it. I caught on and I caught you red handed bad mouthing me and posting your casual encounters ads. You called the police on me immediately. You didn't even talk to me. You called everyone we know and told them I was crazy. You forgot who I am. Shame on you, that was a mistake. I pulled a mountain of evidence proving everything that you had done from your devices. I studied my ass off and picked your narcissistic ass apart. You tried to kill yourself because I wrecked you with my words repeatedly. You set me free from my toxic environment. I got help and I studied at home. I worked hard af on my mental health and my physical health. I became stronger than ever and more confident than ever. I like that you say you don't like me and you don't recognize me. That's a fucking compliment! I wasn't healthy before, but I am getting better everyday. I am nothing like you or your friends. Im not like our families. I don't give up. I fight and I am willing to sacrifice for a better life. My actions define me and they prove you wrong everyday. Im lucky to be me! Im smart, strong, handsome, funny, talented and outgoing. Im now dating a former bikini model from Puerto Rico. Shes a knockout my new friends drool over her lol. I can make 10k a month working 30 hours a week with my business. I have developed an incredibly strong relationship with our children. You look pregnant and miserable. You're depressed and angry. Im nice to you and I want you to be happy. I try my best to be helpful and work with you. You still try to tear me down. I see right through you. You'll always regret losing me. I'll never be replaced. You gave me the greatest gift I have ever received. It took me a while to see that. Thank you for everything good and bad. I hope one day you find the strength to get better and try honestly to work with me for our children's sake. Sincerely, M

2018.06.21 23:16 ceramicfiver Life without internet update/rant

I posted this two months ago
https://www.reddit.com/nosurf/comments/8e7d2b/i_just_got_rid_of_my_smart_phone_i_now_do_not_own/
Ok long story short:
I don't like not having a smart phone for a few reasons: 1) No dictionary app on hand, 2) texting is extremely slow, and prevents friendships from sustaining, 3) No TindeOkCupid, or other social apps. It's hard to socialize in this increasingly lonely society without social/dating apps. And my libido needed an outlet...
So I got my iphone back but had my dad and brother restrict the internet. All browsers and feed apps are gone. Nothing is addictive anymore on my phone.
My job of playing ukulele on the street (busking) doesn't make me enough money to live a comfortable normal life though, so I need a job. (My former life as a hitchhiking, couchsurfing, dumpster diving, busking homeless nomad was extremely frugal, I only needed roughly $40/week. But I'm tired of that and it's hurting my knees too much now carrying a 30 pound backpack everywhere.)
How do I get a real job? How do I pay rent?
I'm at the library now, which is the only place I can use internet (a rule I made for myself).
But I just can't fucking focus. I've spent six hours cumulative so far in this library but still can't even have the focus to go on Craigslist or whatever website to look for jobs.
Why why why why why why
If anyone in Boston wants to hire me please do.
I've been fired countless times for being to slow and distracted but maybe there's at least one job out there that doesn't care how slow and distracted I am...
I'm only here for the summer though as I get depressed in the winter darkness, I'll have to leave by September... and find jobs in Florida, Puerto Rico or Hawaii... or ideally another country.
...or I'll just go back to being a homeless busking nomad.
Thank you

2018.04.16 15:49 nessi_saltares Looking to adopt a kitty 🐱

Hi! I moved here from Puerto Rico last November after the hurricane. Sadly I had to leave my fur baby Apollo with my parents in the island. I know it’s stupid but I just feel so sad not having a cat so I’m looking to adopt one. I’ve gone to PetSmart/Petco and have seen some of the cats they have there but they’re usually adult cats from SPCA. I’ve followed a few shelter pages (including SPCA) but again what they post are usually adult cats that they have for adoption. Normally I wouldn’t care if it were an adult but I do share an apartment with my roommates who have a big dog so I think getting a younger kitty (few months old) would be better that way it could be easier to get along with the dog and be trained by us. I live in the Tonawanda area, is there any place you guys can recommend that would have kittens rather than adult cats? Someone told me to try craigslist and stuff like that to find a free cat but honestly the thought of someone just giving me their sick cat or something just scares me. I’d rather adopt one that I know has been checked and has been spayed/neutered-dewormed & vaccinated.

Airbnb but for Criminals

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is in some shit:
He was caught paying wayyyyy below-market rent (approximately $50 per night BUT not counting nights he spends out of town!) for a private room in a DC condo owned by an energy lobbyist with business before the EPA. Cool arrangement!
This compounds Pruitt’s existing ethics scandal: wasting taxpayer funds on first-class travel and a $25,000 phone booth, and then lying about it.
Pruitt is also set to announce the Trump administration’s plan to roll back fuel economy standards, because people are just dying to drive cars that emit more pollution and guzzle more gas. This rollback would be a giveaway to car manufacturers, and many suspect Pruitt will suppress data about the proposal's environmental impact. And it’s all so unnecessary! It’s like Pruitt didn’t hit his monthly pollution quota or something. FRUSTRATING.
From Brian Beutler: One of the dangerous things about The Trump Show presidency is the way it numbs us to bad deeds. What would be bombshell scandals in any other administration go largely unnoticed today, because everyone expects Trump and his lieutenants to be corrupt. This trifecta at least allows us to hope it will be met with the kind of sustained, negative coverage that will catch Trump's attention when he watches cable news, and that Pruitt will be the next cabinet secretary to fall.

Black Lives Matter

An independent autopsy ordered by Stephon Clark’s family shows that he was shot eight times from behind or the side. His death at the hands of Sacramento police has sparked ongoing protests throughout the city. The Clark family’s lawyer says these results prove that he could not have been moving in a threatening fashion toward the officers when they opened fire. Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings announced a partnership with activist groups in the city. They have also voiced support for a protest following Clark’s death that blocked the entrance to their stadium. Football franchise owners have probably never been happier that there are no NFL teams in Sacramento.
Meanwhile in Louisiana, the police officer who shot and killed Alton Sterling was fired, and another officer involved was suspended for three days. Officials also released graphic body cam footage of Sterling’s death. No charges are being filed against the two officers. From Crooked contributor DeRay Mckesson: “The Baton Rouge Police Chief essentially just said if you think an officer was unprofessional or abused you, you need to endure the abuse and then ‘get with your family and file a complaint.’ This is a joke and it's insulting.”

The Presidential Personnel Office that’s supposed to recruit and vet political appointees has managed to fill just 292 of the 652 most critical posts that require Senate confirmation, according to the Partnership for Public Service. There was also an incident that involved Smirnoff Ice, which we found out still exists, and, because we are fun-loving and fair-minded, do not judge. And you know what also exists? Crooked Koozies—4 for $15 in the merch store!!
FEMA is denying Puerto Ricans assistance because they can’t prove home ownership after Hurricane Maria destroyed their homes and ownership documentation. According to NPR, “of the nearly 1.2 million applications for help that FEMA has received in Puerto Rico, roughly 60 percent have been found ineligible for what the agency calls Individual and Household grants.” This is part of a larger story about the Trump administration’s persistent double standard for Texan over Puerto Rican hurricane victims.
Clashes on the Gaza-Israel border have left 16 Palestinians dead and hundreds more injured as thousands of Palestinian protesters marched to the border in what’s being called the Great March of the Return, according to reports from BBC.
U.S. commanders say that a “lack of guidance from the White House” is threatening their ability to fight ISIS. Can you even imagine what Republicans would do if this was a headline when Obama was president? There would be brown outs in D.C. as the city’s electricity diverted to sending blast emails and press releases.
The Sinclair Broadcast Group is forcing the 193 local TV stations it owns around the country to play conservative right-wing and pro-Trump commentary. These segments frequently feature Trump’s former adviser Boris Epshteyn, and one recent clip warning about the “deep state” trying to take Trump down was produced by a former anchor for the Russian propaganda channel RT. This is state television, hiding in plain sight between weather and sports.

Last week Congress passed a bill called the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, which “carries penalties of up to 25 years in federal prison for anyone who runs an internet service 'with the intent to promote or facilitate the prostitution of another person.’” The law has already caused Craigslist to shut down its personals section and Microsoft to change Skype’s and Xbox’s terms of service.
But critics say not all the changes are good: “Some sex workers argue the bill will hurt those who voluntarily work in the sex industry by pushing them off the internet and back on to the streets. Internet advocates say the bill may the beginning of a crackdown on free speech online.”

A Texas woman was sentenced to FIVE years in prison because she voted while on probation. If she had known it was illegal, she said she never would’ve cast a ballot in the 2016 presidential election, but no one (including her probation officer) told her that being a felon on probation meant she couldn’t vote. Now a Texas judge is sending her BACK TO PRISON for illegal voting. Five years for this mistake. For casting a ballot she should have the right to cast.
Meanwhile, the state of Florida is moving to restore voting rights to ex-felons by overturning a Jim Crow-era law that sought to disenfranchise African Americans. On Tuesday, a U.S. District judge ordered Gov. Rick Scott (R) to find a way to restore these voting rights by April 26. The current system in Florida forces ex-felons to wait at least five years before they can ask for the right to vote.
AND ANOTHER: A teacher in Texas got suspended for telling her students she was married to a woman. She had reportedly emailed the school district asking if it would start discussions about introducing LGBT protections in its anti-discrimination policies, and had previously won the district’s teacher-of-the-year award—twice. From Jon Lovett: Should we also fire straight teachers who mention their husbands and wives? I say no, personally. Seems wrong. Pass ENDA.

“The link between immigration and crime exists in the imagination of Americans and nowhere else.”
Nearly half of Americans believe immigrants make crime worse, according to Gallup polls cited in new Marshall Project investigation. However, as immigration has shot up by 118% since 1980, violent crime in America has DECREASED by 36%. In fact, the data shows it’s possible that immigration actually reduces the crime rate.

2018.01.20 03:26 FinnagainsAwake The First 'Woman of Color' at Harvard Law - Senator Elizabeth Warren - The Affirmative Action Problem - By Annie Linskey (Boston Globe) 19 Jan 2018

https://archive.is/E7XDl
WASHINGTON -- There's a ghost haunting Elizabeth Warren as she ramps up for a possible 2020 presidential bid and a reelection campaign in Massachusetts this year: her enduring and undocumented claims of Native American ancestry.
Warren says now, as she has from the first days of her public life, that she based her assertions on family lore, on her reasonable trust in what she was told about her ancestry as a child.
"I know who I am," she said in a recent interview with the Globe.
But that self-awareness may not be enough, as her political ambitions blossom. She's taken flak from the right for years as a "fake Indian," including taunts from President Trump, who derisively calls her "Pocahontas.'' That clamor from the right will only grow with her increasing prominence.
And, more telling, there's also discomfort on the left and among some tribal leaders and activists that Warren has a political blind spot when it comes to the murkiness surrounding her story of her heritage, which blew up as an issue in her victorious 2012 Massachusetts Senate race. In recent months, Daily Show host Trevor Noah mocked her for claiming Native American ancestry and the liberal website ThinkProgress published a scathing criticism of her by a Cherokee activist who said she should apologize.
As Warren is mentioned as a serious presidential contender in 2020, even some who should be her natural allies say Warren has displayed a stubborn unwillingness to address the gap between the story she was told of Native Americans in the family tree and a dearth of hard evidence to back it up.
It's a disconnect that has lingered unresolved in the public sphere for more than five years.
Warren says she grew up understanding that forebears in her mother's family had Cherokee and Delaware blood. But examinations by genealogists of documents including birth, marriage, and death records have shown no conclusive proof of Native American ancestry.
While it may be easy to dismiss Trump's continued Twitter attacks as bigotry, which has been Warren's response thus far, the view of her more sympathetic critics is that she is leaving herself vulnerable by not clearing the air in a definitive way. Their fear is that the issue could act as a drag on her profile as she considers whether to seek the Democratic nomination for president.
"From a strategic perspective, taking the live step of taking responsibility and an apology, even while noting that it was not her intention to harm anyone, is important," said Tom Bonier, CEO of the Democratic polling firm TargetSmart. "Will that change votes? I don't think that doing so will lose her votes."
If Warren seeks to tackle the issue, there are no easy options. Some tribe members want her to apologize to Native Americans for claiming heritage without solid evidence. Tribes across America have spent centuries denouncing whites who claim Indian DNA without a clear basis, claims they find deeply offensive.
Another path includes pursuing stronger outreach to the tribes with whom she claims to share kinship, a strategy that she's begun to employ. This too is fraught, as some Native American leaders are resentful that she's done, in their estimation, little to help tribes as a powerful senator.
"She's not part of the Cherokee community," said Chad Smith, who was the principal chief of the Oklahoma-based Cherokee Nation from 1999 to 2011. "She hasn't reached out. She hasn't come here and participated much." Advertisement
"The mark of value in claiming heritage is: Do you use your position to give back?" Smith said. "If it is a claim that is valuable to her, she should be helping Indian country. She might be doing it with the overall agenda. But unless she's contributing back, it is a somewhat hollow claim."
Other Native Americans do give her credit for engaging on issues in Washington that benefit tribal members, even if the measures have been fairly low-profile and not entirely targeted at Native Americans. That includes a proposal she's backed to allowing post offices to offer some financial services -- an idea aimed generally at helping rural communities that could also be beneficial to tribes.
Warren declined to say if she would consider saying she's sorry to Native communities, or otherwise address this lingering issue.
"My three brothers and I learned about our family heritage back in Oklahoma the way everyone does," Warren said in a brief phone interview from storm-ravaged Puerto Rico, where she led a delegation of Massachusetts lawmakers this month. "From our aunts, our uncles, and our grandparents. I never asked for any benefit from it and I never got any benefit from it."
Warren disputed the notion that she's been absent on Native American issues, saying that she's forged relationships with tribal leaders from Massachusetts and elsewhere including meeting with the current chief of the Cherokee Nation.
She's pointed to her work ensuring that data is collected to monitor education in Native schools, and she notes her efforts in combating opioid abuse, a particular scourge among Native Americans.
"I work on these issues," said Warren. "I meet with tribal leaders. I attend events. I speak. I've appreciated the opportunity to speak out. And I've tried to be helpful."
Still, highlighting such relationships can be awkward for Warren, given the avalanche of criticism she endures when questions about her heritage arise. But just as Barack Obama had to deal with claims that he wasn't born in America and Mitt Romney felt he had to address, in a major speech, questions about his Mormon faith, observers believe that Warren is going to have to find a way to defuse the issue before it gains traction in presidential swing states.
"She's saddled with it," said Jeff Berry, a political science professor at Tufts University who has closely followed her rise.
He predicted that, if she runs for president, her claims to Native American heritage will be picked over on conservative websites and the issue will bubble over into questions at her news conferences.
Democrats agree.
"Do you need to answer questions? Absolutely," said Jesse Ferguson, a Democratic strategist and former spokesman for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign. "Are you ever going to give an answer that's going to suddenly make her biggest haters okay with her? No."
If anything is for sure, Republicans will attempt to use the issue to their advantage.
"It's just going to raise a lot of questions about her integrity, ultimately," said Jacob Daniels, a Republican lobbyist who helped orchestrate Trump's win in Michigan during the presidential campaign. Warren's heritage claim "could be an honest mistake, it could be an intentional misrepresentation. I think without addressing it, it leaves the question in the minds of the voters."
Questions about her complicated relationships with Native American tribes gained steam recently, soon after Trump launched another "Pocahontas'' attack while he was hosting elderly Navajo code talkers in the White House. His comments drew heat, both for their tone and the setting, but the line of attack resonates.
"Her false claims back up some of the worst stereotypes of Indians, which is that we no longer exist and we're not seen as a contemporary or vibrant community," said Rebecca Nagle, a Cherokee advocate who, on Nov. 30, penned the scathing rebuke of Warren on ThinkProgress. Nagle's op-ed was entitled: "I am a Cherokee woman. Elizabeth Warren is not.''
"If Warren is going to be this bulldog of the left, she has this really problematic thing,'' Nagle said in an interview with the Globe. "If she just apologizes, it would go away."
The ThinkProgress piece was especially startling because the website is operated by the political arm of the Center for American Progress, a Washington think tank closely associated with Hillary Clinton. Neera Tanden, a Clinton ally who runs CAP, didn't respond to a request for comment. Neither did Judd Legum, editor in chief of ThinkProgress.
Democrats say that Warren should closely consider the criticism coming from some in her own party.
"These are personal perspectives she might not have considered," said Bonier, the CEO of TargetSmart. "From a perspective of what's right, I do think the senator has to listen.''
Warren's family has ties to Oklahoma dating from the end of the 19th century -- before it was a state. Oklahoma is now home to more than 35 federally recognized tribes, and it's common for people there to claim Native American ancestry, often based on little more than family mythology. That's partially because there is, for some, a certain mystique in popular culture associated with American Indian ties and many families liked to include those ties in their lore.
But claiming Native blood without evidence cuts to the very core of Native American identity because it usurps the rights American Indians have to define their own people and nations, according to native advocates.
"The problem with Elizabeth Warren is she is not the average wannabe," said David Cornsilk, a Cherokee historian and genealogist. "She is an academic. She has a higher level of aptitude to examine these issues. And a higher responsibility to examine them, and accept the research that is done, or to counter it with alternative research."
Cornsilk described himself as a liberal who supports Warren's agenda of attacking income inequality. "Warren could be an ally," Cornsilk said. "But she will not be an ally that we will accept if she continues to claim Cherokee and Delaware heritage without proof."
Cornsilk wants Warren to offer a full apology that acknowledges that she made claims without proof, that those claims have been damaging, and that she will work to repair that damage.
"It is a fundamental issue of who we are and who gets to decide that," Cornsilk said.
Warren wrote in her 2014 book "A Fighting Chance" that her mother's family grew up on land known as Indian Territory. By the time her mother was born in February 1912 it had become the nation's 46th state, Oklahoma.
"Everyone on our mother's side -- aunts, uncles, and grandparents -- talked openly about their Native American ancestry," Warren wrote. As Warren's mother aged and lost family members she "spoke more forcefully than ever about the importance of not forgetting our Native American roots," she added.
In 2012, the Globe tracked down members of Warren's extended family and found some who also claimed Native heritage and some who were unaware of any ties to Indians. In Oklahoma, it was also common for people to hide their Native roots because Indians faced discrimination.
Over the course of her life, Warren did at times embrace this family story of Native American roots. In 1984, she contributed five recipes to a Native American cookbook entitled "Pow Wow Chow: A Collection of Recipes From Families of the Five Civilized Tribes: Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole." In the book, which was edited by her cousin and unearthed during her 2012 campaign by the Boston Herald, her name is listed as "Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee."
Warren also listed herself as a minority in a legal directory published by the Association of American Law Schools from 1986 to 1995. She's never provided a clear answer on why she stopped self-identifying.
She was also listed as a Native American in federal forms filed by the law schools at Harvard University and University of Pennsylvania where she worked.
And in 1996, as Harvard Law School was being criticized for lacking diversity, a spokesman for the law school told the Harvard Crimson that Warren was Native American.
Warren has not formally claimed to be Native American during her time in the Senate, where the chamber's historian lists three former senators as having American Indian heritage. Senators self-report their ethnicity to the historian's office. Her office has declined to comment on why.
The issue became explosive in 2012 as Warren was running for Senate. The Massachusetts Republican Party and her opponent Scott Brown focused on her heritage, which included Republican operatives trying to rattle her by dressing up in American Indian regalia, attending her public events and making war whoops.
"It frankly became a much bigger issue than anyone expected, and it went on much longer than anyone expected," said Mary Anne Marsh, a Democratic strategist based in Boston. "It was compounded by the Warren campaign's refusal to address it."
She added: "When someone is pouring gasoline on a fire it's always better to put the fire out. But, in this case, the Warren campaign thought it would burn itself out."'
Marsh said that Brown's campaign erred in overreaching on the issue. And Warren won that race by 7 percentage points, even as Obama carried the Bay State over Romney by more than 23 percentage points.
Warren says she believes these issues are in her past.
"These issues were extensively litigated in 2012 and I think the people of Massachusetts made their decision," Warren said in her brief interview with the Globe this month. "I think what the people of Massachusetts and what voters are concerned about is the direction that Donald Trump is pulling this country."
And Warren appears to be taking tentative steps to build ties to Native American advocates in Washington.
"I'd put her on a list of someone who is open and willing to listen and engage," said Jacqueline Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, a Washington-based group supporting Native Americans.
But when asked if Warren has led any major legislative efforts for tribes, Pata demurred. "Not that I know of," she said. "Nor do I believe we've asked that either."
In December, Warren attended a rally in Washington led by the Gwich'in Nation and Inupiaq Tribe in December opposing a provision in the Republican tax bill that opens a portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling.
In the Globe interview, Warren pointed to her broader agenda of working to reduce opioid addiction and substance abuse. "Its an extraordinarily seriously problem for Native Americans," Warren said.
Warren said she has also pushed for a provision in an education bill that would require reporting on student performance by ethnicity, with an eye toward ensuring that Native American students are being monitored -- though the provision also tracks other minorities and isn't specific to American Indians.
She helped a tribe in Northern California protect water rights by helping in negotiations in a larger defense authorization bill, according to several with knowledge of the bill.
And she has sat down with the Cherokee Nation's principal chief, Bill John Baker. In a statement, he described Warren as "very welcoming."
He credited her for supporting a provision in the 2013 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act that lets tribal law enforcement prosecute non-natives accused of abusing American Indian women on reservations.
But perhaps ironically, it is Trump who may be doing the most to push Native Americans into Warren's camp. Every time the president labels Warren as "Pocahontas," she reacts swiftly, calling out the president for using what she terms a racial slur.
"She stands up to the racial slap," said Smith, the former Cherokee Nation chief. "Anyone who stands up for Indian Country," he said, "it endears her to me."
